The Pickle Barrel Restaurant is housed in one of the oldest
masonry buildings built on the western slope of Colorado. This masonry
structure was built in 1880 by Sherwin and Houghton as a general
mercantile store, this building was the six-year-old mining town’s first
masonry commercial structure. It became the Iron Mountain Saloon in
the 1890s with the Giacomelli family, and after serving as an ice cream
parlor with adjacent liquor store after 1917, was sold by the family in
1970. In June 1971 the building, after being vacant for 19 years, opened
as the Pickle Barrel restaurant as it remains today.
It has been many things thru the years until 1950’s when this building was
closed down for 20 years and renovated and opened as the Pickle Barrel Restaurant
in 1971. Thru the renovations one thing has remained the same, the beautiful stone
you can see on the outside is also reflected on the inside in the front of the dining
room.
The Pickle Barrel is one of the longest continually running restaurants in Silverton,
opened in 1971 as a delicatessen with specialty cheeses is now one of finest dining
establishments around. Sharon and Paul, owners have made this establishment a
year round success with many return clientele taking into consideration the
seasonal changes, wants and needs of their customers. The Pickle Barrel is also one
of the select restaurants ran year round with seasonal menus to reflect the different
clientele from season to season.
This building and business has now been put on the market and is listed through
Coldwell Banker.
